She Seems Fine, But Is She Really? Inside the Hidden Struggles of Tween and Teen Girls

She comes home, throws her backpack on the floor, disappears into her room. When you ask how school was, she shrugs: “Fine.”

When you ask if everything’s okay, she says: “I’m just tired.”

And maybe she is.

But maybe there’s more behind that tired.

Because the truth is, girls ages 11 to 17 are navigating one of the most emotionally intense, socially complicated, and quietly overwhelming chapters of their lives. And most of them are doing it with a smile that says “I’m okay,” even when they’re not.

What Girls This Age Are Really Struggling With

From the outside, she might look like she’s keeping up, getting her work done, laughing with friends, posting TikToks. But under the surface, many girls are quietly facing:

  • Anxiety they don’t have the words for

  • Friendships that feel unsafe or confusing

  • Body changes they’re embarrassed to talk about

  • The pressure to look perfect and be liked, online and offline

  • Big feelings like sadness, shame, or anger that they bottle up

  • A growing fear that they’re “too much” or “not enough” at the same time

This is the age where self-doubt starts to harden. Where comparison sneaks in and takes root. Where silence becomes the go-to response because they’re not sure if they’ll be taken seriously or if they even know what they’re feeling in the first place.

And the heartbreaking part? Most girls think they’re the only one who feels this way. They’re not.

What They Really Need

They don’t need to be “fixed.”

They don’t need more rules or lectures.

They need space.

They need tools.

They need connection.

They need a safe circle where they can breathe, speak, cry, laugh, and be met with “Me too” instead of “What’s wrong with you?”

That’s where Summer Girls Group Therapy at Blossom and Grow Wellness comes in.

A Summer of Real Support and Growth

This isn’t just another summer activity. It’s a space for your daughter to finally exhale.

From June 24 to August 12, Blossom and Grow Wellness is offering an intimate, therapist-led group designed for girls ages 11–15 to explore the parts of life that feel heavy, confusing, or just hard to talk about.

Each week, they’ll gather in a safe and welcoming space to build confidence, learn emotional coping tools, and develop deeper self-awareness. All while connecting with other girls who get it.

We’ll cover themes like:

  • Self-Confidence: learning to like who you are without apology

  • Self-Care: understanding what it really means to take care of your mind and body

  • Relationships: identifying healthy vs. unhealthy dynamics

  • Communication: expressing emotions in ways that feel safe and clear

  • Emotions: recognizing and regulating the waves instead of drowning in them

  • Coping Skills: real tools for anxiety, stress, sadness, and more

 Details:

  • Date and Time: Tuesdays, June 24 – August 12 | 7 PM

  • Time & Location: Blossom and Grow Wellness Center, Columbia, MD
